Introduction to Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) with R - 14.04.2026 - Registration OPEN

Are you ready to unlock the potential of your data? This one-day workshop will introduce you to Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA)—an essential first step in any data analysis workflow.

Designed for graduate-level learners without a computational background, this course will equip you with the foundational skills to summarize, visualize, and interpret data effectively. With a hands-on, beginner-friendly approach, you’ll practice these skills using real-world datasets and leave with the confidence to explore data independently.

Before attending the course, please ensure you have installed on your laptop:

Andmehaldus projektijuhtidele - 09.04.2024 - Kutsega

Introduction to statistics with R - 23.04-2026 and 24.04.2026 - Registration open

This course is designed to provide researchers in biomedical sciences with experience in the application of basic statistical analysis techniques to a variety of biological problems. The course will combine lectures on statistics and practical exercises, during which the participants will learn how to work with the widely used “R” language and environment for statistical computing and graphics.

Topics covered during the course include: reminders about numerical and graphical summaries, and hypothesis testing; multiple testing, linear models, correlation and regression, and other topics. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the analysis of their own data.

The course extensively covers materials from https://sib-swiss.github.io/Introduction-to-statistics-with-R/

Requirements

Basics of RStudio IDE, basics of R:

  • knows how to install packages,
  • knows basic data operations - loading in data, fetching data from dataframe, table transformations/pipes,
  • basic concepts of plotting - easy plotting in ggplot2 or some other plotting library

Test your knowledge here: https://www.evamariakiss.de/tutorial/rquiz/quiz_fundamentals.php

Please note, if you get >= 50%, you are eligible for this course. Else, try to find a Basics in R course before attending this one - we provide courses in this too! Materials for that course are available here: https://github.com/ELIXIREstonia/2026-03-05-R-basic

Technical prerequisites:

To do the exercises, you are required to have

  • your own computer with at least 4 Gb of RAM and with an internet connection,
  • as well as the latest the version of R version 4.5.1 (2025-06-13) – “Great Square Root” (R studio ver): 2026.01.1
  • the free version of RStudio installed.

Bring your own DMP workshop - 08.04.2026 - Registration open

Join our workshop for practical guidance on Data Management Plans (DMPs). We’ll discuss relevant resources, the data life cycle, READMEs, GDPR considerations, and FAIR data sharing.

The session incorporates 3-4 dedicated 30-minute writing blocks for you to actively draft your DMP. Our data steward will be present throughout to offer support and answer your questions.

Data visualisation (theory) - 12.03.2026

Researchers often face overwhelming raw data, making it crucial to utilize data visualization effectively. This skill transforms complex datasets into clear, insightful narratives, avoiding the pitfalls of misinterpretation through poor design. In this course, we’ll explore optimal chart types for different data, engage in interactive exercises, and discuss best practices, all illustrated with practical examples.

NB! This is a theoretical interactive course with many examples and tips, group work and discussion. There is no hands-on chart creation.

RStudio for beginners - 05.03.2026

R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. It compiles and runs on various UNIX platforms, Windows and MacOS.

RStudio is an essential tool for anyone involved in R programming. It plays a vital role in data analysis by facilitating data import, access, transformation, exploration, visualization, and modeling tasks. If you’re embarking on your journey to learn R, now is the perfect moment to familiarize yourself with RStudio. Discover what RStudio is, how to install it, and begin harnessing its capabilities to enhance your data analysis and programming skills.

ELIXIR Estonia’s July to December 2025 Highlights

In the second half of 2025, ELIXIR Estonia continued to deepen its collaborations in research data management, both within Estonia and across Europe, while also expanding staff involvement in training activities and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Throughout the period, we placed a stronger focus on data management by participating in and organising events in partnership. A standout moment was co-organising a Nordic Computational Biology Week Conference, an experience that will help us take on larger events in the future. Alongside these activities, our team contributed three new publications, reflecting our ongoing commitment to advancing research and supporting the broader scientific community.
